The worst experience of human civilization novel coronavirus or covid-19 is a serious contagious respiratory disease. It is caused by a newly discovered virus called SARS COV-2 which mainly attacks mammals and birds. This deadliest virus was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019. A lockdown was imposed in Wuhan and other cities in surrounding Hubei but failed to contain the outbreak, and it quickly spread to other parts of China and around the world. The WHO declared covid-19 as a pandemic in March 2020. In Bangladesh, the first corona virus-affected patient was detected on 8 Mach, 2020. This virus spreads through respiratory droplets from affected people. It enters into human respiratory organs through the mouth, nose, and eyes. The symptoms may take about 14 days to come into notice. Besides, the symptoms are variable, ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness whereas one-third of affected people do not have any noticeable symptoms. Common symptoms of corona-affected people are headache, loss of smell and taste, cough, muscle pain, fever, diarrhea, and breathing difficulties. The covid-19 pandemic has already caused the death of about five million people around the world including about 28 thousand deaths in Bangladesh. Now, a number of vaccines have been approved and distributed in various countries. Other preventive measures are social distancing, wearing face masks in public, hand washing, using disinfection liquid on surfaces, and quarantining affected people. For this, most of the countries have declared lock-down to prevent corona from spreading. However, nothing seems effective in face of this deadly virus. We can only say that our momentous personal awareness can keep us detached from this deadly virus.

মানব সভ্যতার সবচেয়ে খারাপ অভিজ্ঞতা নোভেল করোনাভাইরাস বা কোভিড-১৯ একটি মারাত্মক সংক্রামক শ্বাসযন্ত্রের রোগ। এটি SARS COV-2 নামক একটি নতুন আবিষ্কৃত ভাইরাস দ্বারা সৃষ্ট যা প্রধানত স্তন্যপায়ী প্রাণী এবং পাখিদের আক্রমণ করে। এই মারাত্মক ভাইরাসটি প্রথম চিনের উহান শহরে 2019 সালের ডিসেম্বরে শনাক্ত করা হয়েছিল। উহান এবং হুবেই এর আশেপাশের অন্যান্য শহরগুলিতে একটি লকডাউন আরোপ করা হয়েছিল কিন্তু প্রাদুর্ভাব নিয়ন্ত্রণে ব্যর্থ হয়েছিল এবং এটি দ্রুত চীনের অন্যান্য অংশে এবং সারা বিশ্বে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। WHO 2020 সালের মার্চ মাসে কোভিড-19 কে মহামারী হিসাবে ঘোষণা করে। বাংলাদেশে, 8 মে, 2020 তারিখে প্রথম করোনা ভাইরাসে আক্রান্ত রোগী শনাক্ত হয়। এই ভাইরাসটি আক্রান্ত ব্যক্তিদের শ্বাস প্রশ্বাসের ফোঁটার মাধ্যমে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। এটি মুখ, নাক, চোখ দিয়ে মানুষের শ্বাসযন্ত্রের অঙ্গে প্রবেশ করে। লক্ষণগুলি নজরে আসতে প্রায় 14 দিন সময় লাগতে পারে। এছাড়াও, লক্ষণগুলি পরিবর্তনশীল, হালকা লক্ষণ থেকে গুরুতর অসুস্থতা পর্যন্ত যেখানে আক্রান্তদের এক-তৃতীয়াংশের কোনো লক্ষণীয় লক্ষণ নেই। করোনা আক্রান্তদের সাধারণ উপসর্গগুলো হলো মাথাব্যথা, গন্ধ ও স্বাদ কমে যাওয়া, কাশি, পেশিতে ব্যথা, জ্বর, ডায়রিয়া এবং শ্বাসকষ্ট। কোভিড-১৯ মহামারীতে বাংলাদেশে প্রায় ২৮ হাজার মৃত্যুসহ ইতোমধ্যে বিশ্বজুড়ে প্রায় ৫০ লাখ মানুষের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। এখন, বিভিন্ন দেশে বেশ কয়েকটি ভ্যাকসিন অনুমোদিত এবং বিতরণ করা হয়েছে। অন্যান্য প্রতিরোধমূলক ব্যবস্থা হল সামাজিক দূরত্ব, জনসমক্ষে মুখোশ পরা, হাত ধোয়া, পৃষ্ঠে জীবাণুমুক্ত তরল ব্যবহার করা এবং আক্রান্ত ব্যক্তিদের কোয়ারেন্টাইন করা। এ জন্য বেশিরভাগ দেশই করোনার বিস্তার ঠেকাতে লক-ডাউন ঘোষণা করেছে। তবে এই প্রাণঘাতী ভাইরাস মোকাবিলায় কিছুই কার্যকর বলে মনে হচ্ছে না। আমরা কেবল বলতে পারি যে আমাদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যক্তিগত সচেতনতা আমাদের এই মারাত্মক ভাইরাস থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন রাখতে পারে।
